Consumer Alert - Anthem Data Breach

Following a data breach that may impact as many as 80 million people, Anthem is offering 24 months of free identity theft repair and credit monitoring services to current or former members of affected Anthem plans dating back to 2004.

Any Blue Cross Blue Shield plan customer who lives in or who has received health care in an Anthem service area—which includes 14 states-- since 2004 may have been affected. Anthem will be notifying people affected by the breach by mail beginning in late February, but customers do not need to wait until they receive notification to enroll in the free protection.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance and other insurance regulators are working closely with Anthem to determine the impacts of the breach and protect consumers.
