SMOKE ALARMS CUT THE RISK OF DYING IN A FIRE IN HALF

2018 was one of the deadliest years on record for the number of North Carolinians who lost their lives due to fire. In many of those fires, a working smoke alarm was not present. This year, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey is leading the charge to save lives with a statewide education effort to ensure North Carolinians know the importance of fire safety. His first step is to show how quickly an electrical heater can ignite a home fire with a demonstration Thursday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Charlotte Burn Facility, 1770 Shopton Road.
