| Responsibilities |
| This is a key position working in the Financial Analysis Section of the Financial Evaluation Division. This employee will conduct financial reviews of insurance companies domiciled or licensed in the State of North Carolina utilizing the latest automated financial analysis systems and procedures intended to safeguard the financial solvency of these companies. The position will determine if insurers are maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, procedures, and statutory accounting practices required by this state. This position will render an opinion on the financial health of each assigned company, recommend any appropriate corrective actions, evaluate company proposals such as changes of control, mergers, redomestications, business plans, reinsurance transactions, and other material changes in operations, which require the approval of the Commissioner. The position will have the opportunity to interact with people at all levels within the insurance companies as well as within this Department. The work is guided by state laws and regulations, Departmental policies and procedures, and guidance provided by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. |

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: ■ Knowledge of financial statements and the ability to identify areas of concern, including the ability to research, understand, and apply technical information; ■ Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial analysis procedures, and generally accepted auditing standards, as well as the ability to rapidly develop an understanding of statutory accounting, and developments related to those standards; ■ Knowledge and ability to use information technology software, including sufficient skills to use Department analysis systems and assist in the updates of those systems; ■ Ability to apply knowledge independently; ■ Ability to manage time effectively to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner; ■ Ability to apply knowledge toward developing recommendations and conclusions; ■ Ability to document facts, findings, conclusions, and recommendations; and ■ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the general public, Department management, and management of the regulated entities through written and verbal means;
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, with appropriate courses in accounting as defined in 21 NCAC 8A.0309 and other courses required to qualify as a candidate for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination, based on examination requirements in effect at the time of graduation and two years experience in auditing insurance company operations or closely related accounting or auditing work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
If no candidates are found at the Journey level, then the Department will consider the hiring of a Contributing level candidate. For current state employees, during the implementation of career banding, this job is considered to be a salary grade 78. |

| Responsibilities |
| This is a key position working in the Financial Examinations Section of the Financial Evaluation Division. This employee will participate in examinations of insurance companies that are domiciled in NC utilizing the latest automated systems to document risk assessments, execute assigned procedures related to an overall examination approach and evaluation/testing of internal control and substantive testing procedures. Work involves the examination of statutory financial statements for the purpose of assessing the financial condition, legality and propriety of operations. The work is guided by State laws and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, the NAIC, and the AICPA as prescribed by Statements on Auditing Standards. |

| This is a key position under the administrative direction of the Chief Examiner working in the Financial Examinations Section of the Financial Evaluation Division. This employee will plan, manage and direct operations of a staff of technical professionals who conduct on-site field examinations and off-site reviews of insurance companies and other similar or related entities under North Carolina jurisdiction to determine financial condition, legality and propriety of operations, fair and equitable treatment of all policyholders and preparation of reports of findings. This employee will directly review complex financial and reinsurance transactions utilizing the latest automated systems to document risk assessments, develop an overall examination approach, test/evaluate internal controls and perform substantive testing procedures. The work is guided by state laws and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, the NAIC and the AICPA as prescribed by Statements on Auditing Standards. |

Headquartered in Raleigh, NC. SOME IN-STATE AND OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL REQUIRED. CPA and/or certification as a Certified Financial Examiner by the Society of Financial Examiners preferred.
