Derrick supervises the Training Section. He teaches Fire Officer, Haz Mat, Live Fire and other specialized courses as it relates to fire and rescue services.
Shawn teaches upgrade and qualification courses in FF I & II, TR General, TR Ropes, TR Water Rescue, TR Wilderness Rescue, and Airport Firefighter. Shawn assists with Live Fire Qualifications and the Dive Rescue and Recovery programs.
Vince teaches upgrade and qualification courses for qualification of FF I and II and RT Instructors. Vince is responsible for Technical Rescue water rescue instructor qualifications, Hazardous Material Technician Courses and also teaches at High Angle Rescue and Breathing Equipment School. Vince assists with Live Burn Qualifications, Thermal Imaging School and Wilderness Rescue.
Jonathan teaches upgrade and qualification courses. He conducts specialized rescue courses in Ropes, Trench, Confined Space, and Structural Collapse. Jonathan also teaches, Understanding Building Construction when Developing Strategies and Tactics and Breathing Equipment School as well as ICS, Building Construction, Incident Safety Officer, and Strategy and Tactics, and Fire/Arson Investigation. Jonathan is also Assistant Director of High Angle Rescue and assists with Live Burn and LP Gas qualifications.
Tony serves as director for the NC Breathing Equipment School at Gaston College. He conducts Live Fire and LP Gas courses. Tony is responsible for the delivery of NFA courses concerning strategies/tactics, leadership, and company officer development as well as the coordination of the NC Fire Officer III curriculum. Tony instructs at OSFM schools including the NC Thermal Imaging, and High Angle Schools.

Brian serves as director for the NC Thermal Imaging School. He conducts Live Fire and LP Gas courses. Brian is responsible for the delivery of NFA courses concerning strategies/tactics, leadership, and company officer development. Brian also is the primary contact of Driver Operator and Emergency Vehicle Driver programs as well. Brian instructs at OSFM schools including the NC Thermal Imaging, and High Angle Schools.

The Risk Management Division seeks to minimize the adverse effects of property and casualty losses to the State and to the public through building code administration, facility inspections, risk management services, and a wide range of insurance coverages.

The Fire and Rescue Commission staff coordinate and operate the State Fire and Rescue Incident Reporting System (NCFIRS), serve as the state representative and coordinator for the US Fire Administration and the National Fire Academy, and manage the state's voluntary certification system, which is comprised of 28 subjects and has more than 100,000 fire and rescue participants.

The Fire/Rescue Grants & Relief Funds Administers and processes the Volunteer Fire Department and Volunteer Rescue/EMS grant programs as well as the Firefighter Relief and Rescue Workers Relief Funds. Together, both sets of programs collect and disburse over $12 million annually.

Ratings and Inspections
The Ratings and Inspections Division is responsible for inspecting and surveying fire districts for minimum 9S requirements for fire protection under the North Carolina Response Rating System (NCCRS). The division also serves as a resource to fire districts, local governments and emergency personnel who need assistance with district mapping, record keeping, contract agreements, benefits, and more.
