INDIVIDUAL CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING
 
NC Fire Officer Certification Program
 
The Fire Officer 3 Workbook(s) will no longer be an option for certification after December 31, 2012. All outstanding workbooks for Fire Officer 3 must be completed by December 31, 2012.
 

Fire Officer 1 and 2 classes are conducted through the North Carolina Community Colleges. Please contact your local community college if you wish to take the Fire Officer 1 or 2 programs.

Below are the requirements for both Fire Officer 1 and Fire Officer 2 levels.

  • FROFF - Fire Officer I (FIP 3710)

    • 21 years of age
    • Firefighter Level II certified for 3 years
    • INST1 or INST2 or INST3 certified (must be a minimum of INST1 certified)
    • have a High School Education or GED
  • FROF2 - Fire Officer II (FIP 3711)

    • 21 years of age
    • Firefighter Level II certified for 5 years
    • INST1 or INST2 or INST3 certified (must be a minimum of INST1 certified)
    • Fire Officer I certified
    • have a High School Education or GED
PLEASE NOTE: Applications and Certification Course Crossover Sheets must be attached to the workbook. Workbooks must meet all the prerequisites prior to submission. Workbooks will not be reviewed if the application is not attached or prerequisites have not been meet. Workbooks will not be returned.

Recertification Requirements

No recertification required as of October 2002.

 
NC Fire Officer Instructor Qualification
 
Candidates wishing to be qualified to teach the Fire Officer Program must take the Qualification at Regional Testing
