Certification and Training - Regional Testing

Regional Testing

Firefighter Qualifications (04Q0102) will be suspended May 8 through October 7, 2014. During this time the Firefighter Requalification Course will be conducted for anyone who is currently qualified to the Firefighter Program (04Q0102). The Firefighter Qualifications for the NFPA 1001 2013 edition will begin at Regional Testing October 8, 2014. Certification and Qualification Exams offered at Regional Testing

Candidates must register for above Certification and Qualification exams by selecting the following link below.

All required courses and requirements must be met and visible on your OSFM online certification transcripts prior to trying to register online or your registration will be denied.

Certification Exam Codes and Titles:

The Fire and Rescue Commission approved the following changes at their October 9, 2012 meeting to go into effect 1/1/2013. Candidates for Instructor and Fire Officer certifications must meet all requirements for each level prior to registering for Instructor and Fire Officer certification exams. Instructor and Fire Officer candidates will have one year from the date of the course completion to take the state exams at regional testing.

  • INST1 – Instructor I
  • INST2 – Instructor II
  • INST 1&2 – Instructor I & II Combo ***
    (See requirement below marked *** for the requirements to be eligible to register for the Combo Exams)
  • FO1 - Fire Officer I
  • FO2 - Fire Officer II
  • FO I&II – Fire Officer I & II Combo***
    (See requirement below marked *** for the requirements to be eligible to register for the Combo Exams)

*All required documentation must be submitted with registration form or form will not be processed, see Instructor and Fire Officer Registration form for all requirements.

**The Education Methodology instructor and course verification form above is one of the requirements to be submitted with your Instructor 1 & 2 Certification registration form.

***Students who complete the combo course for Officer I and II or Instructor I and II must take the combo exam at regional testing but only if they meet all the requirements for both certifications. No other options. The student must have all the requirements within one year of completing the class to be eligible for the regional test and must submit all required documents when registering.

The Following are the Combo Course FIPs for the Officer and Instructor Programs:

  • ***Instructor 1&2 Combos: FIP 3808 and/or FIP 224
  • ***Fire Officer 1&2 Combos: FIP 3712 and/or FIP226

Candidates for Fire and Life Safety Educator certifications will take Certification exams at Regional testing and must complete all requirements for each level prior to registering for each levels certification exams.

  • FLS32- Fire and Life Safety Educator III Certification
(Applicant must be pre-approved to register for Fire Officer III and Fire Arson Investigator certification exams)

Fire Officer Qualifications

  • Q119 – Fire Officer I
  • Q120 – Fire Officer II
  • Q121 – Fire Officer III

**TR Wilderness Rescue and Marine Shipboard Firefighting are new courses; therefore, the five year certification requirement will be waived until April 2014. If you are certified as TR: Wilderness Rescuer or as Marine Shipboard Firefighter, you may test for Qualification with no waiting period.**

Prerequisites for Qualified Instructor Candidate:

NC Fire and Rescue Instructor Qualification
Prerequisites for Hazardous Materials Mission Specifics Qualified Instructor Candidate:
  1. Candidate must be certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician.
  2. Candidate must be qualified as a Hazardous Materials Level 1 Responder Instructor.
Grading:
  1. Candidate must pass the qualification exam with a score of 80% or higher to obtain qualification.
  2. Any candidate receiving less than a 80% grade will be allowed one re-test at a later regional testing session and must submit registration form to do so.
