Incident Reporting - Information

NC Implementing New Statewide Incident Reporting System

The North Carolina Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal is implementing an updated fire incident reporting system in 2016. This is being implemented at no cost to North Carolina Fire Departments and County Agencies.

Departments who are using third party software for NFIRS reporting may continue to do so by following exporting instructions provided by OSFM.

Departments who are using the USFA Data Entry/Online Reporting Tools will be required to switch to the Image Trend Fire Bridge software by December 31, 2016.

Fire Bridge is an internet based comprehensive NFIRS 5.0 compliant records system with tools available to support your department’s operations, including staff and training information, inventory management, occupancy, preplans, hydrant location mapping and the fire inspections module. Fire Bridge is also scalable for the needs of entities requiring investigations or multiple-department reporting.

Fire departments can use tools listed below:

  • Inventory
  • Visual Informatics
  • MARS Mapping/Reporting
  • Juvenile Firesetter
  • Fire Inspections
  • Preplanning

Recent changes in Administrative Code now requires all departments be NFIRS compliant in order to pass the fire department ratings inspection. Non compliance can result in the department being placed on probation for a period of time and further non compliance can result in the department failing their ratings inspection.
