- Children should stay hydrated while playing sports. Encourage them to drink before, during, and after play.
- Encourage children to stretch before practices and games; this will help prevent sports-related injuries. Also make sure they cool down when play is done.
- Make sure your child receives a pre-participation physical exam.
- Wear all appropriate protective gear such as helmets, protective pads, and other gear.
- Follow all the rules of the game to ensure fewer injuries occur.
- Do not play when you are injured; this can prolong healing time.
- Watch out for others and listen to the coach.
- Plan to have at least 1 day per week from a particular sport to allow the body time to recover.
