Pace Airlines Owner Arrested by N.C. Department of Insurance Investigators
Additional charges may be pending; investigators seek help from Pace employees
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Pace Airlines CEO William Charles Rodgers, 59, 608 Nashua Road, Liberty, Mo. Rodgers is charged with one count of willful failure to pay group health insurance premiums. Investigators allege that he knowingly terminated his employee group health insurance without providing the required 45-day notice to his 337 employees.
Additional charges are pending, and investigators from the N.C. Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division are still seeking information from Pace employees. There will be an informational meeting for Pace employees on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Vets Coliseum (300 Deacon Blvd., Winston Salem). Investigators arrested Rodgers at the Piedmont Triad International Airport this afternoon. He was taken to the Forsyth County Magistrate's Office for processing.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating claims of insurance fraud. So far in 2009, these criminal investigators have seen more than 241 cases successfully closed with more than $9.7 million in restitution and recoveries, 67 criminal convictions and 123 arrests and 92 cases pending in court.
