Fremont Woman Arrested on Charges of Embezzlement
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Wendy C. McGuire, 31, 463 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, for one count of embezzlement. DOI investigators allege, from June to December 2008, McGuire, as a licensed insurance agent, took $7,444.79 in insurance premiums instead of remitting the money to her employer, Chris Challender the owner of Challender Insurance Agency.
She voluntarily surrendered her license in July. McGuire was processed at the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and placed under a $7,500 secured bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating claims of insurance fraud. So far in 2009, these criminal investigators have seen more than 241 cases successfully closed with more than $9.7 million in restitution and recoveries, 67 criminal convictions and 123 arrests and 92 cases pending in court.
