Taylorsville Woman Charged with Embezzlement

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Vickie Bowman, 42, 3951 Three Forks Church Road, Taylorsville with seven counts embezzlement.

According to the arrest warrants, Bowman failed to remit a total of $7,958.01 in customers' insurance premiums into the North Carolina Farm Bureau agency accounts; Bowman worked as a customer service representative with Farm Bureau. According to investigators, Farm Bureau reinstated the premiums so that no consumers were negatively impacted.

Bowman was processed at the Alexander County Magistrate's Office and released under a $25,000 unsecured bond.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating claims of insurance fraud. In 2009, these criminal investigators saw more than 413 cases successfully closed with more than $10.5 million in restitution and recoveries, 89 criminal convictions and 175 arrests.
