Sampson County Insurance Agent Accused of Embezzlement
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Shawn Elizabeth Eubank, 46, of 2416 Autryville Road, Roseboro. She is charged with one count of embezzlement by an insurance agent.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between June 2009 and September 2010, Eubank, while employed as an insurance agent at Imark Insurance of Clinton, pocketed money to which she was not entitled in the amount of $20,266.39.
Eubank was arrested on Jan. 12 as a result of a joint investigation by the North Carolina Department of Insurance and the Clinton Police Department. She was placed under a $20,000 unsecured bond and scheduled to appear in Sampson County court on January 21.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating claims of insurance fraud. In 2010, these criminal investigators have seen more than 402 cases successfully closed with more than $21.1 million in restitution and recoveries, 88 criminal convictions and 126 arrests.
