Joint Investigation Leads to Laurinburg Woman’s Arrest for Alleged Insurance Fraud
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Katina Faye Walker, 39, of 1151 Thompson St., Pittsboro; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Walker of filing three insurance claims for the same damage to her vehicle. Walker filed claims with GEICO Insurance Company on March 23, 2011, and Oct. 27, 2011, for vandalism to her 2004 Dodge Stratus, and was paid $4,097.11 by the insurance company. She filed a third vandalism claim on March 8, 2012. GEICO representatives alleged that the damage was the same in all three claims and contacted Department of Insurance criminal investigators.
Walker was arrested on July 12 in Chatham County, placed under a $2,000 unsecured bond, and is expected to return to court on Aug. 27.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
