Hendersonville Doctor Accused of Failing to Pay Employee Insurance Premiums
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Dr. Felicia Brabham, 59, of 735 Sixth Ave. West, Hendersonville; she is charged with one count of insurance fraud.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between November 2011 and April 2012, Brabham stopped paying the health insurance premiums for her medical office employees and willfully failed to notify them that their coverage had been cancelled, resulting in the employees incurring thousands of dollars in medical bills.
Brabham was arrested on Jan. 9 with assistance from the Hendersonville Police Department and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have received more than 16,800 complaints, resulting in 720 arrests and 380 criminal convictions. These efforts have delivered more than $50 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
