Rural Richmond County Fire Districts Obtain New Insurance Rating

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin today announced that seven rural fire districts in Richmond County have completed the necessary steps to extend their fire insurance district lines, effective June 1, 2013.

The residents affected are served by the Cordova, Derby, East Rockingham, Millstone-Mt. Pleasant, Hoffman Rural, Mountain Creek and Northside fire districts.

"I'd like to congratulate each of the fire department chiefs and their members for all of their hard work," said Goodwin. "The citizens of Richmond County should rest easy knowing they have a fine group of firefighters protecting them and their property in the event of an emergency."

The district line extension from five miles to six miles means that citizens living within six road miles of the fire station will be able to benefit from a 9E fire insurance rating - and possibly lower homeowners' insurance rates. To obtain the extension, each of the districts signed automatic aid agreements with neighboring districts to ensure an automatic response to all structure fires. County commissioners then had to approve the new district maps.
