Henderson County Insurance Agent Accused of Embezzlement
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Holly Ann Small, 38, of 115 McMinn Ave., Brevard; she was charged with two counts of embezzlement by an agent.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that on April 4 and 5, 2012, while working as an agent for an insurance agency in Henderson County, Small accepted cash premium payments in the amount of $439.95 from two policyholders and did not apply the payments to the customers’ accounts. The funds were never located and the agency owner had to pay the missing premiums so that neither customer experienced a lapse in coverage.
Small was arrested on March 27 by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office. Bond information was not available.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
