Goodwin Comments on President's Health Insurance Announcement
RALEIGH -- President Obama today announced a policy allowing insurers to offer policyholders whose health insurance coverage would otherwise be terminated the opportunity to keep their current plan. According to data collected by the North Carolina Department of Insurance, more than 473,000 people in North Carolina are faced with their plan being terminated by their insurance company.
Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin issued the following statement:
"I have been, and remain, deeply concerned about North Carolinians who may lose or cannot access health insurance, and I appreciate any effort by the federal government to help us address cancellations of coverage. Given the President's announcement, my staff and I are gathering information and analyzing the options available to us at the state level to best protect North Carolina consumers."
