Four Arrested in Alleged Staged Accident Scam in Orange County

Investigators seek public assistance in locating additional suspects

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrests of four people in an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving a staged auto accident in Orange County. The Department of Insurance requests assistance from the public in locating three additional suspects in association with this case.

Kendra Shanell Clark, 26, of 2010 Morningside Drive, Apt. B, Burlington, was charged with one count each of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. Clark was arrested on Feb. 3 and placed under a $30,000 bond.

Roderick Robertson, 30, of 246 Seventh St., Burlington, was charged with one count each of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. Robertson was arrested on Feb. 3 and placed under a $30,000 bond.

Dequana Wilson, 29, of 220 Edgewood Drive, Roxboro, was charged with one count each of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. Wilson was arrested on Feb. 4 and placed under a $2,500 bond.

Karena Faye Withers, 25, of 819 Sarah Williams Ave., Graham, was charged with one count each of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. Withers was arrested on Feb. 3 and placed under a $30,000 bond.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that the suspects conspired to defraud Greenville Casualty Insurance Company of $25,734.14 by intentionally causing an auto accident in Orange County on Sept. 9, 2012.

Investigators are seeking additional suspects in association with this case.

Sherita Defaye Robertson, 34, of 1337 Village Road, Whitsett, is wanted for obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud.

Tom Price Wiley III, 31, of 1100 Jackson St., Burlington, is wanted for obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud.

Shneeka Withers, 30, of 714 N. Carr St., Apt. E, Mebane, is wanted for obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud.

Criminal investigators are requesting the public's assistance in locating these additional suspects. The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 800 arrests, resulting in 430 criminal convictions. These efforts have delivered more than $55 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
