Rocky Mount Man Charged with Auto Insurance Fraud
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Antonio Lennard Lawrence, 42, of 7180 Silverleaf Road, Rocky Mount; he was charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that Lawrence provided fraudulent documentation to GEICO Insurance Company in support of a claim for the loss of his vehicle in a fire on March 10, 2014.
Lawrence was arrested on June 6 with the assistance of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office and placed under a $3,000 bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 800 arrests, resulting in more than 430 criminal convictions. These efforts have delivered more than $55 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
