Granville County Man Accused of Presenting Fraudulent Liability Insurance

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Ronnie Chris Carpenter, 40, of 2054-C Highway 96, Franklinton; he is charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Carpenter of presenting false documents in October 2013 to fraudulently receive payment for contract work.

Carpenter allegedly provided a fraudulent certificate of liability insurance to a customer on or about Oct. 1, 2013, to secure a contract to perform home improvement work at a Durham County residence and collected an $8,000 deposit for the job.

Carpenter was arrested on March 19. He was charged in Durham County and placed under a $40,000 bond.
