Safe Kids NC Partners with Tweetsie Railroad to Host Safe Kids Day

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin announces that Safe Kids North Carolina and the N.C. Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal are partnering with Tweetsie Railroad, Safe Kids Watauga, Safe Kids Wilkes, Safe Kids Ashe/Alleghany and Nationwide Insurance to celebrate Safe Kids Day 2015 on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock.

Safe Kids Day 2015 is a nationwide initiative to prevent unintentional childhood injuries, save lives and celebrate kids. Safe Kids North Carolina will be providing education to parents, caregivers and children about child passenger safety and performing booster seat and seatbelt assessments. Free giveaways and activities will be available to children.

"Safe Kids Day is a day to celebrate kids, prevent injuries, save lives and, most importantly, have fun," said Goodwin, chair of Safe Kids North Carolina. "Most people are surprised to learn that preventable injuries are the leading cause of death to kids in the United States. Safe Kids Day gives us the opportunity to educate people about child safety while having fun."

Safe Kids North Carolina reaches out to parents, caregivers and children in 71 counties served by 40 coalitions across the state. Through these coalitions and partnerships, more than six million people have access to Safe Kids North Carolina programming.
