Onslow County Man Accused of Insurance Fraud for Alleged False Claims

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Christian Boyer, 23, of 118 Broadhurst Road, Jacksonville; he is charged with three counts of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Boyer of filing three fraudulent insurance claims since October 2014. Boyer filed allegedly false claims with Progressive Insurance for stolen stereo equipment in October 2014, with GEICO for a stolen 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle in February 2015, and with Progressive Insurance for stolen stereo equipment in March 2015. Boyer received $1,270.18 from Progressive for the October 2014 claim.

With assistance from Jacksonville Police Department, Boyer was arrested on April 17 in Onslow County and placed under a $5,000 bond.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 1,000 arrests, resulting in more than 500 criminal convictions with more than 200 cases currently pending court. These efforts have delivered more than $61 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
