Columbus County Woman Accused of Insurance Fraud
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Shaquella Geathers, 28, of 35 Walters Trail, Whiteville; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Geathers of attempting to obtain $4,219.12 from Nationwide General Insurance Company by providing fraudulent information from March 2015 through June 2015. Investigators allege Geathers made fraudulent statements concerning her employment and previous insurance claim history and reported items that were never missing as stolen from her home.
Geathers was arrested on July 22 in Columbus County and placed under a $5,000 bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
