NCDOI to Examine BCBSNC
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin met with top executives of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina this week to discuss the insurer's ongoing payment and enrollment problems.
As a result of the issues, the N.C. Department of Insurance will be initiating an examination of the company to monitor compliance with statutes and regulations. A public report of findings will be issued after the conclusion of the examination. The department's published examination reports can be found at http://www.ncdoi.com/MR/MR_Reports_ALL.aspx.
Since Jan. 4., NCDOI has received more than 1,000 complaints from BCBSNC customers related to issues such as overbilling, inability to verify effective coverage, and lack of a way to pay premiums due to company system errors.
