Six Accused of Insurance Fraud and Conspiracy in Edgecombe County

RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Anthony Hendricks, 28, Martha Hendricks, 49, Anthony Pender, 54, and Lonnie Pittman, 32, and warrants for the arrest of Lonesha Pittman, 30, and Christina Sherman, 21 of 128 Photinia Court, Apartment C, Rocky Mount; each is charged with one count each of insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense in Edgecombe County.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse the group fraudulently reporting the manner in which an automobile accident that occurred on Aug. 7, 2016, to obtain more than $7,500 in payment from National General Insurance Company. Investigators allege all parties involved did know each other prior to the incident in an effort to conspire to commit insurance fraud.

Anthony Hendricks, Marth Hendricks, Anthony Pender and Lonnie Pittman were arrested between Nov. 12 and Nov. 29 in Edgecombe County and each were placed under a $2,000 bond.

Lonesha Pittman and Christina Sherman have been charged and currently have warrants out for their arrests.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 1,500 arrests, resulting in more than 750 criminal convictions with more than 250 cases currently pending court. These efforts have delivered more than $72.1 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
