Wilkes County Man Accused of Burning Personal Property
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Dewey Ray Norman, 41, of 170 Mitchell Court, North Wilkesboro; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and burning personal property.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Norman of providing false and misleading information to Farm Bureau Insurance Company in regards to the circumstances surrounding an automobile fire that occurred on June 2, 2016. Investigators allege Norman intentionally set fire to the automobile that belonged to Judy Joya at the time of the incident
Norman was arrested on Jan. 21 in Wilkes County and placed under a $25,000 bond.
An estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims. The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
